The N.N. Vorozhtsov Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry was established in June 1958 as a part of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

At the period 1958-2012 the Institute was headed:

Academician N.N. Vorozhtsov jr/ (1907-1972) was the founder of the Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry and its first director (1958–1975), an outstanding organic chemist, and the founding father of chemistry of polyfluoroaromatic compounds in the USSR. In 1997, the Institute was named to commemorate him.
